Genetically modified nontoxic form of Clostridium perfringens toxin epsilon. Produced as toxoid with identical antigenic response as wt toxin in E. coli as recombinant GST-fusion protein.
Clostridium perfringens toxin epsilon is produced by Type B and Type D strains. It is produced as a 33 kD protoxin, which is cleaved by trypsin and chymotrypsin in the gastrointestinal tract or by the C. perfringens encoded protease, yielding an active toxin which is thousand times more active than the protoxin. The recombinant toxoid epsilon is produced with the H106P mutation, which abolishes the toxicity but not antigenic structures of the wild type toxin.
